The organization is headed by an officer of the rank of Additional Inspector General of Police. He is assisted by four Deputy Inspectors-General of Police and a number of senior superintendents, superintendents, deputy and assistant superintendents and other staff. For administrative and operational purposes, the organization is divided into nine regions, each headed by an officer of the rank of Senior Superintendent or Superintendent of Police. It has field offices in all districts of the Punjab.
