IG Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan takes notice of illegal detention and death of a citizen in Jhelum.
Sub-Inspector Naveed Afzal and Head Constable Muhammad Tanveer have been arrested after registering a case against them.
Punjab Inspector General of Police Rao Sardar Ali Khan has said that illegal detention or torture and killing under custody is not acceptable in any case, the officers and personnel involved in such incidents deserve severe departmental action and punishment. IG Punjab has taken notice of the incident of illegal detention and death of a citizen in City Cantt police station of Jhelum and has sought a report of the incident from RPO Rawalpindi. Rao Sardar Ali Khan ordered to arrest picket incharge Sub-Inspector Naveed Afzal and Head Constable Muhammad Tanveer immediately. IG Punjab directed DPO Jhelum to meet the affected family and give them full assurance of justice. He said that post mortem of the body should be done and all aspects should be investigated and those responsible should be severely punished. IG Punjab said that Punjab Police are taking strict measures to eliminate such negative elements and they will not be allowed to remain a part of the department.
