Nawankot, DSP accomplices booked for torturing citizen
LAHORE: Nawakot police registered a case against Nawankot DSP Shams Durrani and his accomplices on the charges of toruring a citizen and keeping him in illegal detention.
However, Nawankot police were reluctant to arrest the DSP and his men. The complainant Rana Shaukat of Dholanwal spotted a man scaling the wall of his house and raised alarm, upon which the unidentified man attempted to escape. Shaukat chased him and saw the two locals Malik Farooq and Malik Shafique providing shelter to the running man in their house. The two refused to hand over the man to the police and threatened Shaukat of dire consequences.
Shaukat met the DSP at his office and found Farooq and Shafique sitting there. On the orders of DSP the victim Shaukat was taken to a room where he was kept in illegal detention for many hours and was given a good thrashing, as a result of which his ribs fractured. Later, the policemen dropped him at Mian Munshi Hospital. He appealed to the IGP Punjab to look into the matter and order a departmental inquiry against the accused DSP.
