Seven cops booked for 'torture' of newsmen
KASUR, March 2: Police on Wednesday booked seven police officials, including a station house officer, and six unidentified accused for torture of three journalists at Sheikhum police station.
Reports said journalists namely Khalid Nawaz, Tariq Bajwa, and Farooq Alam along with a friend, Shahid Bukhari, went to Sheikhum police station to inform that Bukhari had secured bail in a case registered with the police station.
The journalists alleged that after a phone call from SHO Atta Mustafa, the police officials — Arshad Ali, Amin, Amjad, Shaukat, Asif and Ilyas — and six unidentified men detained them at police station and tortured them. At night, police released the journalists and their friend.
Police have registered a case a week after the incident. No arrest was made so far.
