Punjab IG meets slain policeman’s family

RAWALPINDI: The death of an officer in the line of duty is a very traumatic experience not only for his or her immediate colleagues but it also sends its ripple effects of shock waves to the upper echelons of the department not to mention that it gravely hurts morale and rocks the spirit and foundation of camaraderie and bonhomie to the core. A case in point is the recent slaying of Racecourse Police Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Mian Imran Abbas who was killed in the line of duty. In this context, Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Inam Ghani, visited the house of the slain officer and expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family. IG Ghani was accompanied by Rawalpindi Regional Police Officers (RPO) Imran Ahmar and senior police officers

Condoling with the mother of the martyred inspector whose husband Mian Abbas, was also martyred while fighting with criminals, said that the killers would be caught and severely punished. He assured her that the entire Punjab police force was with her and her courage and sacrifice were a source of pride for the police department .The Punjab IG assured the family that special arrangements would be made for the education and welfare of the martyr’s children. On this occasion, CPO Muhammad Ahsan Younas informed that Police Headquarters Colony Gate has been named after the martyred Inspector.

Later, IG Punjab also visited Shaheed Constable Altaf Hussain Mess in the police lines and engaged with the employees. Ghani checked the quality of food being provided in the mess. and also inspected Head Constable Muhammad Ali Shaheed Model Barracks and Constable Saeed Akhtar Shaheed Services Lounge and appreciated the exemplary facilities being provided there. He also visited Police Training College Sihala where Commandant Ghulam Rasool Zahid briefed him on the ongoing training activities in the college.

Addressing the trainees, the IG issued important instructions regarding morale-building and change in attitudes. He also visited the computer lab, library, lady recruit course, digital firing practice room, and other sections. On this occasion, IG Punjab said that women constables across Punjab should be removed from non-policing duties and immediately deployed in the field. Ghani pointed out that provision of the best professional training at par with modern requirements was his topmost priority. He also added that under citizen-centric policing, sincere efforts should be made for public service and safety.

He regretted that that despite all efforts the image of Punjab police was not up to the mark for which they had to change their attitudes. To improve the quality of policing modern techniques need to be incorporated in training he added. The overall law and order situation of Rawalpindi Division was also reviewed in a huddle at the RPO office in Rawalpindi with police officers from across the region.He expressed his concerns over the rampant crime spree and directed the police personnel to improve performance in apprehending and tracking down criminals.
