Sources said the German nationals were actually traders who frequently visited the provincial capital to buy carpets to be exported to Germany and other western countries.
The Germans, later identified as Peter, Uve, Oliver and Sprung, were coming back to their hotel after visiting a leading carpet store on the Nicholson Road when policemen stopped them at a picket near Police Lines, Qila Gujjar Singh.
The policemen took them to a nearby police station as initially, the foreigners failed to produce their passports and other travelling documents. Later, they called someone at the hotel who reached the police station and showed their passports and other travelling documents to police.
The policemen after verification of their documents released all of them.
One of the German trader told the media that it was his and his fellowsí fault as they had forgot to keep their documents and passports along with them.
He also thanked the policemen for cooperating with them and providing them proper guidelines.
