CM orders police hiring thru` PPSC
LAHORE, March 15: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Tuesday presided over a meeting regarding law and order in Lahore.
He directed that short and long term planning should be made for improving the performance of police in the provincial metropolis and measures should be taken for community policing, for a comprehensive system of monitoring and for ridding police force of black sheep.
He said that honest police officers were posted in the province but the expected change at the lower level had not been witnessed. “The police stations are of fundamental importance in the provision of justice to the common man and thana culture can only be changed if DSPs and SHOs perform their responsibilities with commitment and dedication,” a handout quoted him as saying.
He said that he was not interested in statistics but would be satisfied with the efficiency of police if the public also expressed its satisfaction.
The chief minister further said that the programme of recruitment of Inspectors and DSPs in police through the Public Service Commission should be given a final shape at the earliest.
He said that holding of meetings twice a month at district level regarding the law and order should be ensured.
Present in the meeting, elected representatives also gave their proposals for the improvement of law and order in the province. Capital City Police Officer Muhammad Aslam Tareen apprised the meeting of the measures taken for the elimination of crimes in the provincial metropolis.
