Ranks of 79 police officials withdrawn
RAWALPINDI, March 14: In line with the Supreme Court directives, the Punjab government has withdrawn the ranks and postings of 79 senior police officials. The provincial government has directed 47 Superintendents of Police (SPs) and 32 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) to report to the Central Police Office, Lahore.
On March 9, the SC has directed the Punjab police not to give shoulder promotions in the department. A three-member SC bench comprising Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Raja Fiaz and Justice Asif Saeed Khosa issued the direction on the application of 34 SPs, who maintained that the police department was confiscating their seniority by giving shoulder promotions.
Out of the 79 police officers, seven SPs and three DSPs were posted in Rawalpindi division. They were: Ishtiaq Hussain Shah, SP traffic, Chaudhary Mohammad Hanif, SP VVIP security, Haseeb Hussain Shah, SP security, Pervez Bandial SP Potohar, Sultan Chadar, SP CIA, Abdul Ghaffar, SP investigation Attock, and Raja Basharat Mehmood, posted at CID Punjab.
Three DSPs posted in Rawalpindi - Musarat Abbas, Zaigam Abbas and Khan Zaman — were reverted to their substantive ranks of inspectors. The affected police officers were awarded promotions and given jumps of ranks by violating procedural norms. The police officers have been directed to immediately report to the Central Police Office Lahore.-Staff Reporter
