Couple arrested in newborn’s kidnap case

KASUR: Saddar police on Sunday claimed to have arrested a couple suspected of kidnapping a newborn baby from the gynae ward of the DHQ hospital two weeks ago. The newborn is feared to have been sold and not recovered yet.

The couple, according to police, works at a public hospital in Lahore. Police also suspect that both are members of a child kidnapping racket.

Four children had been kidnapped from the DHQ hospital in the last couple of years. This is the first incident where the suspects have been arrested.

The newborn’s family staged demonstrations outside the DHQ hospital for two consecutive days.

On Aug 31, an unidentified woman took away the newborn baby boy of Abdul Rehman of Kot Fatehdin on the pretext of administering him polio vaccine, and later disappeared. A case was registered against the unidentified woman and a video of her taking the baby also went viral on social media.

Police, on Sunday, claimed to have arrested the woman and her husband.

They also took the couple to an undisclosed location for investigation.

CYLINDER BLAST: A shopkeeper suffered serious injuries and his shop was destroyed in a cylinder blast while decanting here on Sunday in Dholan village, Chak 7.

The cylinder blast at the shop of Muhammad Salman created panic in Dholan village Adda Chowk. Salman suffered serious injuries while his shop caught fire and was destroyed completely.

Rescue 1122 firefighters reached the spot and put out the fire. An injured Salman was rushed to the Pattoki THQ Hospital for medical aid. Local police were investigating.
