Traffic police cracks down on parking violations

RAWALPINDI: The City Traffic Police on Sunday launched a crackdown against parking violations and encroachments which it said were the major cause of disruption in traffic flow.

A spokesman for the traffic police said the campaign was led by Superintendent of Police Ibrar Qureshi in Raja Bazaar, Imperial Markets, Bara Market, Ganjmandi and City Saddar Road.

During the campaign, the traffic police seized several carts of vendors and issued 117 tickets against parking violations as vehicles were found parked in the middle or on both sides of roads.

But motorists were seen protesting against the police move and issuance of tickets, saying there was no space to park their vehicles.

Though the traffic police tried to maintain smooth flow of traffic in Fawara Chowk and its surrounding areas, encroachments were hindering the traffic move. Senior police officials said clearing roads from encroachments was not in their domain.

“Where I should park my car when the parking plaza at Fawara Chowk is already filled and there is no other space on roadsides,” said Mr Obaid, a motorist.

There were some other motorists who were complaining about the same issue as they were unable to find a parking place.
