MIANWALI: The police claimed to have foiled a human smuggling attempt by a gang, and rescued eight boys.

Police sources said the Kundian station house officer (SHO) received a tip that a mysterious bus was moving through the riverine checkpost of Kacha Pacca Mor. SHO Khalis Khan and his team cordoned off the area and intercepted the bus.

On searching the vehicle, they found eight boys aged between 18 and 25 years. Police arrested the driver and conductor and impounded the bus.

During investigation, the boys -- seven belonging to Kotli in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and one to Gujranwala – said they were being smuggled by a gang of human traffickers to Turkey and other European countries through Quetta and Iran.
The sources told Dawn that it was a case of human smuggling and under the purview of the Federal Investigation Agency. It will be transferred to the FIA along with the arrested bus staff and the boys for further investigation to bust the gang.
