GUJRAT: Tanda police claimed on Sunday to have traced and arrested two suspects allegedly involved in the kidnap and murder of a young man whose body was found in the bed of a storm water channel near Lakhanwal village.
Irfan Ali (27), a resident of Lakhanwal village had gone missing on May 28.
The victim’s brother, Usman Khalid, had informed the police that Irfan had left their house on May 28 the last after receiving a phone call and never returned.
He said the family looked for him but to no avail. He said on May 29 he went to the outhouse of one Hafiz Sajjad to look for his brother but he (Sajjad) claimed that Irfan did not visit the place.
District Police Officer Syed Touseef Haider constituted a team headed by Sadar DSP Chaudhry Saeed to investigate the case.
The team claimed that they had detained two suspects who, during interrogation, confessed to have killed Irfan.
The suspects told the police that after killing him they dumped the body into the bed of the water channel. The police later recovered the body from the spot.
A police official said that after recovery of the body, section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code would be added to the kidnap FIR.
