IGP urges police to be proactive to contain Covid-19

LAHORE: Inspector General of Police Shoaib Dastgir has urged the police to play an active role to contain coronavirus and asked all the regional police officers (RPOs) and the district police officers (DPOs) to not only brief the force on the virus but also guide and cooperate with the citizens regarding the pandemic.

The IGP also emphasized uninterrupted action against the professional criminals across the province and directed all RPOs and DPOs to supervise the intelligence-based operations and put the criminals behind the bars. He further directed that RPOs should send him monthly reports on performance of their officers, especially the circle officers.

IGP Dastgir expressed these views while chairing a video link meeting to review law and order situation and preventive steps regarding coronavirus on Friday. He added every possible facility should be provided to every police officer or official who tested positive for coronavirus.

He said strict compliance of instructions should be ensured in Police Lines, offices, unit headquarters and police stations without fail whereas stern actions should be taken against hoarders and the individuals who were selling masks and sanitisers on high rates. He also directed the police officers and officials to keep the public aware of precautionary measures of this virus. He stressed upon officers and officials to take good care of themselves and follow the instructions regarding the virus.

The IGP was briefed on the heinous crime graph and performance of police by all the RPOs and DPOs. He asked the police officers to deal with the cases of child and women abuses on a priority basis so that there should be no delay in deliverance of justice to the aggrieved. He said the DPOs should personally supervise the cases of murders and violence during robberies.
