BAHAWALPUR: A minor girl was allegedly raped and murdered on Sunday night in the Uch Sharif police precincts, about 70 kilometres from here.

According to the district police chief’s spokesman Jam Sajid, on receiving information, District Police Officer (DPO) Sohaib Ashraf rushed to the spot. On his orders, police registered a first information report on the complaint of the minor girl’s mother under sections 302, 376, 382, 364 and 511 of the PPC against the suspect and claimed to have arrested him on Monday.

According to Sajid, the complainant stated that her four-year-old daughter was playing outside the house in a street of Makhdumpura village near Uch on Sunday. When she did not return home in the evening, the mother along with some neighbours started looking for her. They found out that the suspect was seen taking the girl to the nearby sugarcane fields.

When, according to the complainant, they ran towards the fields, they saw the suspect raping her daughter, who was lying unconscious. On seeing them, the suspect escaped from the spot, while they found the girl dead. Her daughter’s gold earrings had also been removed by the suspect, she alleged.

On receipt of information on Sunday night, the DPO rushed to Uch Sharif and condoled with the minor’s parents. Sajid claimed police managed to arrest the suspect from the area on Monday and were interrogating him.
