GUJRANWALA: Wazirabad police arrested on Sunday a suspect involved in an attack an a police van which led to the killing of a `criminal’ in custody.
City Police Officer Gohar Mushtaq Bhutta told newsmen that the police got arrested Luqman Butt, a proclaimed offender, from Indonesia three days ago with the help of Interpol. A resident of Tatomand locality, Luqman ran a network of criminals extorting money from traders.
The CPO said his accomplices had killed a number people who had refused to give ransom or forced tax.
He said police party was taking him for recovery of loot on the Daska-Wazirabda Road on Jan 25 when suspects riding a motorcycle opened fire. As a result Luqman died on the spot.
Police arrested Ejaz Rasool while his accomplice Rashid was still at large.
