Enhanced cooperation with public essential for eliminating crimes: IG

Inspector General of Police Punjab Shoaib Dastgir said that it is mandatory for police force to enhance cooperation, relationship of trust and information sharing with public so that the process of elimination of criminals may be beefed up.

He said that police force should also ensure immediate resolution of issues of the citizens with their high moral values, professional skills and full fledge actions so that the citizens may be helpful to police for supremacy of law by securing the cooperation and trust of public. He moreover said that this is also an admitted fact that the crimes cannot take roots in those societies where police have full trust and cooperation of public therefore, all officers and officials should make their places in the hearts of citizens by their zeal of public service, commitment and diligence so that peaceful environment may be promoted in the society by reducing the distance between police and public. He further said that it is my target and mission to restore and win the prestige of Police force and public trust by the help of public friendly policing and in this regard, all police force will have to take side with me by showing best performance.

 

He further said that it is among my top priority to eradicate criminals from society and improve public service delivery and in this regard police force should adopt courteous behaviour in public dealing and also make it familiar with advance practices in investigation and operational duties based on skills of modern policing so that they may ensure protection of wealth and lives of people by fulfilling their duties. He further said that police provides security to public on religious and national rituals without caring the hardships of weather and happiness of their own families, whereas nearly 1500 police officers and officials have laid their lives in the line of the duty even then the image of Police in public is not good which is a matter of great concern. He further said that we should be accountable to ourselves because if we correctly do self-accountability then there is no need of our accountability by another person.

He said that the motive of special initiatives police stations, front desk, police khidmat marakiz and other modern projects is to promote public friendly policing but if the officers did not adopt the courtesy and high moral values in their behaviour then these projects will go wasted.

He further directed officers to adopt open door policy to resolve the issues of citizens and promote sense of protection in the society by equal implementation of law, observation of merit and full-fledged actions.

He further said that special attention should be paid on inspection, punishment and reward processes of the force so that performance of the force may be enhanced. He also said that good performers during the duty should be encouraged whereas there should be no delay in taking action within discipline matrix against those who trespass their powers, do corruption and show nonprofessional behaviour. He said that Intelligence based operations should be boosted up for elimination of criminals and anti-social elements in all districts across the province whereas DPOs should take strict actions against drug dealers, land mafias and extortionists under their supervision.

These views were expressed by him while addressing to police officers and media personnel at Rawalpindi. On this occasion RPO Rawalpindi Sohail Habib Tajak, CPO Rawalpindi Ahsan Younas, DPO Attock Khalid Mehmud Hamdani, DPO Jehlum captain retired Hammad Abid, DPO Chakwal Adil Memon along with SSP investigation, CTOs, ASPs and SDPOs, SHOs were present.

The IG was given salutations by an active squad upon his arrival at Rawalpindi Police Lines. IG Punjab laid floral wreaths on memorials of martyrs and offered Fateha for their higher ranks.

On this occasion IG Punjab inaugurated modern command and control system for monitoring and surveillance, investigation facilitation centres for improvement in investigation, welfare room and committee room for welfare and resolution of issues of the force where ceremonies and meetings regarding objectives of the department will be held.

The Punjab IG also met young students and citizens and scholars who are doing research work in the project of “Friends of Police and Volunteers in Police” and emphasized upon strong trust relationship between police and public. While discussing with youngsters, IG Punjab said that young persons are valuable asset and active part of Pakistani society and they should cooperate with local police in operation against drugs dealers at educational institutions so that networks of drugs dealers may be eliminated completely. He further said that with increasing coordination of students with police, they will soon realise about resources and problems of Police therefore the young students should keep on identifying the problems of law and order by taking an active role as a citizen so they police may ensure resolution of these issues on priority basis.

While responding to queries of media personnel the IG said that priority based steps shall be ensured for compensation of hardships in issues faced by collection centre of Punjab Forensic Science Agency. On this occasion, the IG also responded to other queries of media representatives. IG Punjab was of the opinion that the officers should speed up the surprise visits of Police stations, police offices and all projects under their supervision and wherever the devised SOPs are being violated then the responsible persons should be held accountable. He stressed that modules of modern investigation, Geo Fencing and forensic science should be benefited fully in order to improve the standard of investigation in accordance with the contemporary requirements so that pending cases may be resolved and police performance may also be improved.

He further said that the officials in the field duty are true face of Punjab Police who basically represent Punjab Police while offering their duties on roads and places therefore officers should play the role of best leadership for improving performance of constables and brief them about professional conduct, improvement in discipline and modern policing to make them part of daily routine.

In the session, IG Punjab also heard issues of officers and issued orders on the spot for their resolution. In the end of the session, RPO Rawalpindi presented memorial souvenir to IG Punjab.
