Three terrorists arrested

LAHORE: Punjab IGP Shoaib Dastgir praised CTD Bahawalnagar team for arresting three dangerous terrorists after an intelligence-based operation and directed that intelligence based operations against terrorists and extremists be continued in all districts of the province.

He said special operations should be undertaken against terrorists and also their facilitators so that anti-social elements could not succeed in their objectives of spoiling peace in society. The IG said CTD is playing an instrumental role in eradication of terrorism and its timely actions have considerably reduced the ratio of incidents of the terrorism.

CTD Bahawalnagar as per an intelligence-based report took action and arrested three dangerous terrorists form the Haroonabad bypass and seized arms from them. Imran, Muhammad Abid Sohail and Muhammad Raza were among the terrorists. According to a spokesperson CTD, CTD undertook a successful operation on an intelligence report from an authentic source and recovered 07 detonators, safety fuse, 02 boxes of ball bearings, 01 electric battery, 01 electric switch and ammunition material in two shopping bags. The accused were planning to attack sensitive installations in Bahawalnagar which was foiled by timely action by CTD team. CTD police registered a case against the accused and initiated further investigation in this regard.

security for T-20 series: Police (Operations Wing) have chalked out a comprehensive security plan for the forthcoming Pak-Bangladesh T-20 cricket series to be held from January 24 at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore.

According to the Security Plan, more than 10,000 police officers and officials will perform security duties including 17 SPs, 48 DSPs, 134 Inspectors, 592 Upper subordinates during the three matches of the series to ensure foolproof security of the players as well as citizens visiting the cricket stadium.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations Wing) Lahore Rai Babar Saeed police are all set to provide foolproof security to the visiting Bangladeshi as well as Pakistani cricket players for the T-20 cricket series. Surety bonds are received from the persons concerned to ensure peaceful cricket matches. Three layers security will be provided to the citizens who will only be allowed to enter the stadium after complete checking. Prohibited items will be banned to bring on these matches by the citizens.

We will also ensure complete implementation on SOPs fixed regarding security to conduct the matches of T-20 series in peaceful atmosphere. Rai Babar Saeed said that round the clock monitoring of the residential places of teams, matches and movements in and round the cricket stadium will be ensured through the CCTV cameras of Punjab Safe Cities Authority. He said that Dolphin Squad, Elite and Police Response Unit teams will continue their effective patrolling around the specific areas of the city.

Snipers will be deputed on the roof tops to keep an eye on all the movements during these matches. Search and sweep operations are being conducted on daily basis in the city particularly around the cricket stadium and designated areas.

He directed the officers concerned to remain in complete coordination with related departments including District Government for maximum security arrangements. He stressed the need to adopt more effective strategy to provide foolproof security during these matches. Parking places would be reserved at different points of the city and citizens will be brought to the stadium through bus shuttle service, he concluded.
