SAHIWAL: Craze for popularity through Tiktok and social media landed an Arifwala-based youth in police lock-up on Monday after two footages showing him guiding two minor boys to aerial firing went viral.
Reports said Ahmed Waqas of Zianagar (Arifwala) made videos of teaching aerial firing [with 30-bore pistol] to two boys Asad (14) and Samiullah (15) and uploaded it on social media.
As the clip went viral, District Police Officer Sahibzada Bilal Umer took notice of the incident and police sprang into action. The footages showed boys resorting to aerial firing and a man was guiding them how to fire.
City Station House Officer Rai Khizer Hayat told Dawn on phone that Waqas, a welder by profession, was nabbed for aerial firing and keeping illegal arms.
Talking to this correspondent, Nighat Dad, a digital rights activist, said most of the people didn’t know what kind of content on social media could become harmful for their own and others’ security.
“They innocently make and post such videos which are unlawful as well. There is a need to educate citizens on the misuse of social media,” she said.
