GUJRAT: Jhelum police claimed on Thursday to have arrested a suspect allegedly involved in stealing drone cameras at wedding ceremonies.

A spokesman for Jhelum police said Tariq Mahmood, a resident of Gujranwala, had been stealing drone cameras from various districts, including Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot and other cities.

Adding he said the suspect had stolen the drone camera of Jhelum-based reporter of Dawn news TV Aamir Kiyani from a marriage hall in December. The spokesman said he was captured in the closed circuit cameras of the hall while lifting the camera and fleeing the scene by wearing mask on his face.

However, the suspect was arrested on the Gujrat district courts premises where he was already present to attend a proceeding against him in another camera theft case registered by the Gujrat police previously. Police also claimed to have recovered the lifted camera from the suspect somewhere from Gujranwala. Further investigation is under way. Jhelum DPO Syed Hammad Abid has announced cash awards and commendation certificates for the police team.
