Couple held with kidnapped minor

BAHAWALNAGAR: Police claimed on Tuesday to have recovered a minor boy and arrested his two captors in Haroonabad.

According to a press release issued by the DPO office, trader Muhammad Rasheed’s wife went to a wedding ceremony along with her two-and-a-half year-old son Bilal on Dec 7 where a man and a woman engaged her in a conversation and disappeared with the child. Later, the suspects called Rasheed and demanded a ransom of Rs500,000 and threatened to kill his son if he did not comply with the demand.

Muhammad Rasheed informed the area police and an FIR of the incident was registered.

Bahawalnagar DPO Quddus Baig constituted a team for the recovery of the child and arrest of kidnappers. The team, with the help of the father of the child, started investigations. The suspects constantly demanded the ransom money from the trader while changing their location. Finally on Dec 17, when the kidnappers received the ransom money from Rasheed, the police arrested them along with weapons and safely recovered the child.

The police also recovered Rs500,000 ransom money from the kidnappers.

PRO to DPO Kashif Kamran said suspects Abdul Razzaq and his wife Parveen had been arrested red-handed while police were conducting raids to arrest third suspect Sajjad. He said Sajjad was convicted in 14 cases.

The DPO announced cash prizes and certificates for the police team.
