LAHORE: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Shoaib Dastagir has directed the Internal Accountability Bureau (IAB) head to issue warning letters to non-performing DSPs to ensure internal accountability of the sluggish officials.

While chairing a meeting to review the IAB performance at the Central Police Office on Wednesday, he said the internal accountability mechanism would be strengthened to ensure provision of justice to the citizens.

IAB Additional IG Azhar Hameed Khokhar and other senior police officers concerned were present.

“The officers who are not taking interest in redress of public complaints and are trespassing their powers will not remain part of my team. Their timely accountability is crucial for overall improvement in performance of the force.” said the IGP.

Mr Dastagir also directed the officers concerned to make every possible effort for redress of the complaints received at 8787 while adopting a zero tolerance policy against the officials found responsible for delay in FIR registration. He asked them to follow citizens’ complaints received at 8787 through calls, SMS and emails to resolve their issues at the earliest.

The IGP also said the police officers showing good performance would be given rewards.

Mr Khokhar briefed the IG about the performance, saying that during the current year, the IAB had done 1,097 inquiries into charges against officials/officers, action had been recommended against 166 officials for punishment after completing 855 inquiries. He said the IAB had inspected 862 police offices, police stations, Khidmat Marakaz, model police stations etc while taking action on citizens’ complaints.
