Model roads to present exemplary traffic flow

LAHORE: The Punjab police on Wednesday announced launching model roads in all big cities for improving traffic system in the province.

Traffic police teams will deliver lectures for raising awareness about traffic rules in schools and colleges.

Additional Inspector General Farooq Mazhar has directed all chief traffic officers to ensure provision of safe, modern and secured journey to the public. The new strategy was carved out to address traffic jams and accidents due to rising pressure of traffic on roads.

Under the new traffic system, model roads will be developed where awareness camps will be organised. Traffic signals, signboards and flexes will also be placed on visible places of roads.

Directions were issued to all chief traffic officers to take strict action against underage drivers and wheelie doers.

Moreover, special campaign of obeying traffic laws by the citizens will be launched by nominating traffic perfects with the cooperation of administration of schools and colleges and traffic police. Traffic police education teams will deliver lectures of awareness to young generation in schools and colleges.

In order to streamline the flow of traffic, encroachment and wrong parking will be eliminated and driving in right line and lane will be ensured. Rickshaws and motorcycle will be restricted in rush areas.

Mr Mazhar also ordered all chief traffic officers to take actions against the violators and also send their report to traffic police headquarters within seven days to examine the feedback of the newly introduced traffic system.
