Crackdown on weapons smuggling

LAHORE: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Arif Nawaz Khan has ordered the department to intensify crackdown on weapon dealers to make sure that there is no links of the dealers with smugglers.

He said this at a meeting on Wednesday to review the action taken by the regional police officers, district police officers and the Lahore police authorities against the arm dealers selling weapons to the criminals or anti-social elements.

He was briefed about the inspection reports submitted by the Lahore Capital City Police Office, RPOs of all regions and DPOs regarding stock situation of arm dealers running business across the province. The Punjab police carried out inspection and checking of stocks of 458 arms dealers in all districts of the carried out on Tuesday.

They cancelled license of 15 weapon dealers and lodged cases against 18 others.

The IGP issued instructions to intensify the crackdown and inspections and warned that no leniency would be tolerated in this respect.

He asked the department to make sure regular stock checking of arms dealers in all districts and keep on getting inspection reports from Lahore police and all RPOs and DPOs.
