The police on Sunday arrested four members of an inter-provincial gang of robbers allegedly involve in a case of murder-cum-robbery, and recovered more than Rs 150,000 from them.

The police claimed that the arrested culprits were wanted by law enforcers across Punjab for their involvement in murders, robberies and other heinous crimes.
Saddar Division Superintendent of Police (SP) Rai Mazhar Iqbal, while sharing details with the media, said that in December last year, shop owners Tahir and Ibrar of Kallar Syedan along with their 3 friends were traveling when they were stopped near Chappar Chowk by unidentified robbers, who looted them on gunpoint. He said that upon resistance, the robbers started shooting at the victims, resultantly killing Tahir and seriously wounding Ibrar.

“This incident of murder and robbery was a challenge for Rawalpindi police, as it was a blind murder and culprits were unidentified,” he said, adding that as soon as CPO Muhammad Faisal Rana assumed charge, he ordered an inquiry into pending cases, which included the said incident. He said the CPO formed a team to pursue the criminals and bring them to justice. “The police, using modern technologies, traced and arrested a suspect namely Abdul Rehman from Sahiwal, who turned out to be the ring leader of ‘Rehmana dacoit gang’. This gang is infamous all over Punjab for murdering innocent people upon resistance. The police have also arrested three other members of Rehmana gang, namely Shoaib, Junaid, and Sharif,” he said. The SP said the arrested accused had confessed to murdering Tahir and injuring Ibrar during a robbery bid.
