IGP orders curbs on rape, other crimes

LAHORE: IGP Arif Nawaz Khan has ordered action against the persons involved in rape and making immoral videos of women and children.

“The police department will show zero tolerance towards such dirty elements of society and they must be sent behind the bars,” he said while addressing the audience at a police darbar at Ashraf Marth Shaheed Police Lines, Gujranwala, on Saturday.

He said steps must be taken to bring the culprits to court of law. The IGP said all possible steps should be taken to ensure protection of rights of minorities. The operation against cases of murder, dacoity, extortion and ransom should be intensified.

“There is no place for any officer and official in the Punjab Police who is found guilty of negligence, corruption and misuse of power.”

He said there is no leniency for the police officers and officials who misbehave with public and police force should bear in mind that only diligent, honest and capable officials will be given respect in the department.

The IG said brave officials who laid down their lives in the line of duty are the pride of the police department and “welfare and lookafter of their families is my personal responsibility and steps will be taken to ensure their welfare in this regard.

“It is my solemn commitment that police should be made public friendly and for this purpose police officers and officials will have to develop a friendly and amicable relationship with the public.” He said the hospitals in Police Lines would be upgraded to provide modern medical facilities to the force. Modern refresher courses are also being conducted for enhancing investigation process of the police.

Earlier, he was briefed on the steps taken for eliminating crimes in districts.

The IGP laid the foundation of new Jamia Masjid and a lounge for the visitors for a solution to the problems of citizens. He also inaugurated many other schemes including police guesthouse, recreation room, welfare eye and 111 Branch.

He planted a sapling at Police Lines and distributed prizes among police officials.
