IGP’s order for not registering arrest of accused persons sans evidence

LAHORE: IGP Amjad Javed Saleemi has directed Lahore CCPO, all RPOs and DPOs for not registering arrest of accused persons till finding solid evidence against them. The IGP also directed the officers not to arrest the family members of accused persons. Saleemi issued a standing order Thursday in the light of meetings held in Islamabad over reforms in police and judicial system. It also aims at reducing the burden of cases on courts. The SHOs have been directed to use their powers under Sections 496, 497 and 169 of CrPC which allows in charge police station to release accused person on bail. IGP has also asked officers to hold meetings with the SHOs and in charge investigations for proper implementation of the standing order.
