In order to finalize comprehensive arrangements to maintain the law and order and protection of the participants of religious gathering and processions across Punjab during the upcoming Islamic month of Moharram-ul-Haram, an exclusive RPO Conference was held at Central Police Office, Lahore under the chairmanship of Inspector General of Police, Punjab, Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera, today.
The conference was attended by Addl: IGP Punjab, Naseem-uz-Zaman, Addl: IGP Welfare and Finance, Sohail Khan, Addl: IGP CTD, Muhammad Tahir, Addl: IGP Special Branch, Dr. Arif Mushtaq, CCPO Lahore, Muhammad Amin Wains, RPO Sheikhupura, Abubakar Khuda Bakhsh, RPO Gujranwala, RPO Rawalpindi, Akhter Umer Hayat Laleka, RPO Faisalabad, Capt: (R) Ehsan Tufail, RPO Multan, Amjad Javaid Saleemi, RPO Sahiwal, Faisal Shahkar, RPO Sargodha, Ahmad Ishaq Jehangir, RPO Bahawalpur, Muhammad Tahir Rai, RPO D.G Khan, Rehmat Ullah Khan Niazi and other officers of CPO Lahore.
Keeping in view the proposals, recommendations and requirements of all RPOs relating to the deployment, it was decided to appoint 135098 officers / officials for the protection of 9997 processions and 37888 majalis and religious gatherings besides 801 sensitive and 288 most sensitive flashing points in 10 big cities of Punjab.
Total deployment included 96257 officers / officials of police force, 5524 reserve, 15979 PQR, 7176 of special police, 543 G.Os, 1445 inspectors, 4517 sub-inspectors, 6424 ASIs, 9201 HCs and 74127 constables, besides, 4650 PC officials and 5512 officials of Training Colleges and Schools.
Moreover, to meet any untoward situation during Moharram 36 elite teams of IGP’s reserve will remain standby for four districts including Lahore, Multan, Faislalabad and Rawalpindi, whereas, 48 PC platoons of IGP’s reserve would also remain on high alert.
It was also decided in the conference that 55 companies of army and 28 of rangers will also remain standby. The conference also decided to cancel all kind of leaves of all operational and security officials during Moharram. To prevent any kind of terrorist or criminal activity in police uniform, it was decided to issue the security passes for all the security personnel.
Strict action will be taken against those who indulged in display of arms, weapons and aerial firing irrespective of his designation and status. Temporary security guards will be provided to those personalities who received serious security threats, decided in the conference.
IGP also directed the officers to ensure the installation of search lights and public address system on the security vehicles besides to arrange the video coverage of all processions with the cooperation of CTD and Special Branch.
The decision about the installation and use of CCTV cameras, barbed wires, walk through gates, jammers, metal detectors at all the entry and exit points of the cities and processions was finalized. It was also decided in the conference to monitor all houses and their residents on processions routes. In the conference, IGP was briefed by the RPOs that the task of re-verification of surety bonds of all fourth schedulers has been completed.
The decision to monitor all those anti-state elements, involved in walk chalking, publication of hatred material, misuse of loudspeaker and Ulemas who were banned and under gagging act was also done in the conference.
