Police are an important institution of the state and no one will be allowed to challenge its writ. The morale of this fighting force will be upheld at all costs as the officers/officials are ready to confront future challenges.
Inspector General of Police Punjab Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera expressed these views while addressing the Regional Police Officers’ (RPO) conference at the Central Police Office in Lahore today. Acting-Additional IGP Naseem-ul-Zaman Siddiqui, Addl IG Welfare and Finance Sohail Khan, Addl IG Training Capt (retired) Muhammad Usman Khatak, Addl IG Special Branch Punjab Dr Arif Mushtaq, Addl IG CTD Punjab Muhammad Tahir, Addl IG PHP Javed Islam, CCPO Lahore Capt (retired) Muhammad Amin Wains, RPO Sheikhupura Abubakar Khuda Bukhsh, RPO Gujranwala Saad Akhtar Bharwana, RPO Rawalpindi Akhtar Umar Hayat Laleka, RPO Faisalabad Capt (retired) Ahsan Tufail, RPO Sargodha Ahmed Ishaq Jehangir, RPO Multan Amjad Javed Saleemi, RPO Sahiwal Faisal Shahkar, RPO Bahawalpur Muhammad Tahir Rai, and RPO DG Khan Rahmat Ullah Khan Niazi, were also present on this occasion besides all the CPOs and DPOs of the province.
The conference approved a comprehensive security for Eid-ul-Azha. It was also decided in the meeting that Eid holidays of all the operational staff will be cancelled because of security duties and they would be given alternative leaves. The police are directed to intensify armed patrolling besides setting up special pickets to control crimes and animal’s theft ahead of Eid. The meeting also reviewed the security policy for the upcoming month of Moharram-al-Haram. For the first time, it was decided that police officials would be provided special training before deploying them on security duties for Moharram. The field officers are urged to keep close liaison with the members of peace committees, trade leaders, student leaders, and religious leaders of all schools of thought.
The IGP Punjab directed the officers to intensify armed patrolling from 3:00 am to 6:00 am on daily basis across the province. In order to confront any emergent situation, sufficient police force would remain present at the police stations round-the-clock. The IGP also directed the officers to ensure best security for banks, jewelry shops, and commercial markets.
In order to ensure free and immediate registration of cases, the record would be computerized at police station level. Initially, at least 10 police stations in Lahore are allocated Rs 3.5 million to up-grade the offices of Muharrars and to maintain the police record. The DPOs are directed to introduce a “Pool” of Inspectors and Sub Inspectors for their postings as SHO in their respective districts. The officials found involved in corruption or poor performance will be expelled from this Pool.
The participants of the meeting also emphasized on intelligence sharing among various law enforcing agencies to ensure recovery of the stolen or snatched vehicles. Similarly, such cooperation will help police control street crimes. The police are ordered to step up crackdown against the criminals involved in the cases of extortion and kidnapping for ransom. It was also decided in the meeting the Accountants would be posted for a period of three-year at a position and after this period they would be transferred.
The meeting also decided that alternate police force will be sent to Islamabad to replace the existing force deployed for security of the protesters at the sit-ins.
The conference also finalized the proposals for the training courses of policemen to be held under the supervision of Pakistan Army in the field of weapon handling and counterterrorism. The additional policemen deployed at the residences of retired and in-service police officers will be withdrawn.
On this occasion, the Punjab IGP also directed the officers to ensure regular inspection of the Police Lines, Police Stations in their respective Regions besides checking the morning drill of the policemen. The meeting also discussed different initiatives for the welfare of policemen, police martyrs, and their families.
It was also decided that 27 double cabin, 110 single cabin vehicles will be given to the field officers for operational duties while the government has already approved 250 pick-ups for the department.
