85 gangs arrested by Lahore police in November

City police (operations wing) on Monday claimed to have smashed 85 gangs by arresting their 229 members during the month of November. The police also seized looted valuables worth Rs 12 million and firearms from their possession.  DIG Operations Muhammad Waqas Nazir said that all available resources were being utilized to hunt down criminals in the provincial capital. All divisional SPs are given special tasks to arrest criminals involved in heinous crimes. The overall situation of law and order in the city is quite satisfactory, he added.  During the grand operation against illegal weapons, Lahore Police arrested 475 criminals and recovered 88-rifles, 3-Kalashankove, 57-guns, 502-revolvers and pistols, 02 daggers and more than 8340 bullets from their possession.  Similarly, the police also arrested 617 drug peddlers and recovered one-kg heroin, 195-kg of charas, 3-kg opium and 6658 bottles of liquor from them. The police also arrested 391persons during the crackdown against gambling dens. As many as 648 criminals were arrested by police for defying the ban one-wheeling, kite flying, aerial firing, and the loudspeaker act. Lahore Police also arrested 116 criminals during its action against brothels in the city during the previous month.
