Ramazan security reviewed

LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General of Police retired Capt Arif Nawaz has said all available resources should be utilised for the provision of security to 35,575 mosques, Imambarghas and 1,858 Madni Dastar Khawan and Ramazan bazaars across Punjab during Ramazan.

“Search, sweep, combing and intelligence-based operations should be carried out at all sensitive places and also in the vicinity of worship places before the onset of the holy month,” he told all regional and district police officers via video link on Wednesday, says a handout.

Additional IG Operations (Punjab) Aamir Zulfiqar Khan told the IGP that more than 90,000 police officers, personnel, private security guards and volunteers would perform security duties for the 32817 mosques and 2,758 Imambargahs. He said the police would use metal detectors and walk-through gates to ensure the safety and security of worshipers.

The IGP directed that suggestions from administrators of worship places should also be accommodated while drafting security plan. He directed that snipers should be deputed at rooftops of sensitive category mosques and Imambargahs. He directed that an efficient plan should also be devised for security of public in Ramazan Bazaars and Madni Dastar Khawans.

He said banks should be told to follow SOPs given by police and timing of patrolling police and quick response force should be enhanced for protection of citizens. The monitoring of patrolling police should be give special attention.
