Illegal business of unlicensed weapons and to stop it’s smuggling

In order to control the illegal business of unlicensed weapons and to stop it’s smuggling, stocking, easy availability and demonstration, Inspector General of Police Punjab, Khan Baig has constituted inspection teams for regular inspection of arm dealers, manufacturers, stock holders and buyers across the province.

According to the reports received from various government agencies, it has been learnt that business of illegal weapons is on the rise and illegal / smuggled weapons are easily available without any effective check and balance. Moreover, many arm dealers are acquiring weapons without any official permission or license.

Keeping in view the directions of the Punjab Government in this behalf, Provincial Police Chief has directed to all RPOs, CPOs, DPOs and CCPO Lahore to constitute inspection teams headed by a DSP / SHO along with a representative of the arms branch of the District Coordination Office in their respective areas.

These inspection teams will be responsible to inspect premises of the shops and stocks of all licensed manufacturers and dealers once every quarter. Whereas, an SP rank police officer will ensure the inspection of the same, once in a year. These teams were also be directed to furnish their reports along with clear recommendations in this behalf by 25-02-2014 to IGP.

In the light of these team’s reports the dealers who were found involved in illegal activities / irregularities the matter will be taken up with the home department for cancellation / suspension of their licenses. Furthermore, strict criminal action will also be initiated, under the law, against the arm dealers founded to be in illegal business.
