Keeping in view the current wave of terrorism and prevailing security situation, Inspector General of Police Punjab, Khan Baig has issued instructions to put the security on high alert (including elite and PQR force) across the Punjab especially at the areas bordering with other provinces.
All field police officers were directed to enhance the security at all entry and exit points at the border areas side by side the strict patrolling and surveillance in order to avoid any terrorist activity. Moreover, they were directed to take strict checking measures by the riverine and PHP posts. Security deployment must be enhanced at Railway Stations, Bus Terminals, Business Markets, Important Government Buildings, Mosques, Darbars, Imamabargahs, Residential Areas and Educational Institutions. Daily basis search operation will also be continued by the police.
Meanwhile, briefing the IGP in his office about the data issued by Investigation branch, DIG Operations Punjab, Farooq Mazhar told that during last three weeks the police has busted 26 notorious gangs and has arrested their 147 members involved in dacoity, robbery with murder, robbery in banks and jewelry shops and rape with minors in a crack down against these POs. The police also recovered a sum of rupees 31329700 from the arrested POs.
DIG Operations further told that during the period 112 accused involved in other criminal activities were arrested whereas, 118 new and 55 old case were also traced by the investigation department.
According to the figures 59 top ten and top twenty POs were also arrested by the police during the period from 8 districts including Rawalpindi, Pakpattan, Mandi Baha ud din, T.T Singh, Vehari, Hafizabad, Bahawalpur and Sargodha.
Illegal weapons including 47 Klashankoves, 137 guns, 105 rifles, 878 pistols, 92 revolvers, 63 carbine and 4044 other weapons have been recovered by the police from the POs. Police also arrested 1384 accused involved in narcotics and recovered 39.786 kg heroin, 229.672 kg Charas, 11473 bottels of Liquor and 2852 liter Lahan.
