Police arrange child safety seminar

LAHORE -  The city police organised a seminar titled ‘Protection of Fundamental Rights of Children’ at Aiwan-e-Iqbal on Tuesday.

According to a press release, children presented different programmes to raise awareness about children's rights while speakers stressed the need for concerted efforts to ensure child protection.

Noted lawyers, civil society activists, senior journalists Mujeebur Rehman Shami, Sohail Waraich, Afzal Rehan, PJ Mir, Wasif Nagi, Malik Liaqat, Mian Saifur Rehman, Aisaar Rana, Naseem Qureshi, Azam Chaudhry, Munir Baloch and Zameer Afaqi also attended the event.

Top cops including CCPO Amin Wains, DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf, SSP (Ops) Muntazir Mehdi, child Protection Bureau Chairperson Saba Sadiq, DC Sameer Ahmad were present on the occasion.

Addressing the participants, the CCPO said: “Children are future of nation, they should be protected by active participation of parents, teachers, police , civil society and all members of society so that anti-social elements can be brought to book.”

He added it is prime responsibility of parents to keep an eye on their children and in case of unprecedented change in their behavior, parents should also inform police .

Dr Haider welcomed the audience and reiterated the resolve to ensure child safety .  He added the city police attached a priority to provide protection to women and children for which all available resources are being utilised. He made an appeal to the public for extending cooperation with police for the cause.  Saba Sadiq said her bureau is taking strategic steps for protection of rights of children in all districts of province and it is a good omen that other stakeholders are also becoming part of it.
