Gangster killed in 'encounter'

BAHAWALPUR: Hasilpur Saddar police claimed to have killed a proclaimed offender in an alleged encounter on Tuesday.

According to police spokesman, Mumtaz alias Makki was being escorted to Chak 193-Murad for the recovery of robbed items. On the way, accomplices of Mumtaz attacked the police in an attempt to set him free. This led to an exchange of fire between the robbers and police. When the firing stopped, police found Mumtaz killed. They claimed that the suspect was killed by the fire of his own accomplices. The body was sent to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Hasilpur for post-mortem. Police alleged that Mumtaz, a resident of Hasilpur, was a member of a gang and was wanted by in 20 cases of heinous nature.
