Lahore: The Punjab police is going to introduce Electronic Traffic Violation Management System (ETVMS) and License Penalty Point System (LPPS) in Punjab on the pattern of developed nations.

The systems are aimed at squeezing violators of traffic rules and regulations, bringing the road users in discipline and reducing accidents.

According to DIG Traffic Punjab M. Farooq Mazhar, the violation of record of each driver would be maintained in form of points online and points be calculated through an electronic device.

He said on the basis of such points the violation tickets would be issued to drivers.

Mazhar said each violation had its own points and each violator would be barred from driving from three months to two years depending upon points.

He said the system would be linked with the Motor Registration Authority (MRA) so that violators could not get documents of their vehicles updated owing to delay in fine payments in time.

DIG said in case of repeated cancellation of driving permit, the driver would have to pass new test for driving by depositing fee with the provincial exchequer.
