A high level meeting of police officials held today at Central Police Office headed by IGP Punjab Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera to discuss the recruitment and training process, provision of vehicles and security gears to the Special Protection Unit (SPU), established to ensure the security of the foreign experts working on various development projects in Punjab.

Addl: IGP Welfare and Finance, Sohail Khan, Addl: IGP Operations / Investigations Punjab, Capt. (R) Arif Nawaz, Addl: IGP Establishment Punjab, Dr. Arif Mushtaq, Addl: IGP Legal, Ali Zulnorain, DIG Headquarter, B.A Nasir, DIG Operations Punjab, Amir Zulfiqar, DIG SPU, Agha Yousaf, DIG R&D, Ahmad Ishaq Jehangir and other senior police officers also attended the meeting.

DIG SPU, Agha Yousuf briefed the IGP that recruitment process of 3338 security constables out of approved 4076 posts has been completed while the remaining 583 posts will be filled by 10th October this year. Summary to recruit 5000 more security constables has been submitted to the government for approval. Whereas 264 drivers and 33 wireless operators are also hired for the SPU. Recruitment of 73 retired army personnel in SPU at ranks from head constables to inspector is already done.

It was further added to the briefing to the IGP that, training of 3298 security constables is undergoing in four police training schools of the Punjab while training of the next batch will begin by the last week of October.

IGP Punjab Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera approved one of the three uniform samples designed for the SPU. The procurement process of the uniforms will be completed by 2nd week of the September after final approval from Cabinet Sub-Committee. Special Protection Unit (SPU) will be fully functional by the end of the October this year.
