In order to revisit the security in Punjab with a view of a tragic incident in Quetta today, to secure the functions and ceremonies of independence day and to re-promote to all those officers after Supreme Court’s decision, a video linked RPO Conference under the chairmanship of Inspector General of Police, Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera held at Central Police Office, Lahore today.
All RPOs and DPOs through video link whereas, Addl: IGP Welfare and Finance, Sohail Khan, Addl: IGP Operations / Investigation Punjab, Capt. (R) Arif Nawaz, Addl: IGP Establishment Punjab, Dr. Arif Mushtaq, Commandant PC, Hussain Asgher, Addl: IGP PHP, Amjad Javaid Saleemi, Addl: IGP Special Branch Punjab, Faisal Shahkar, Addl: IGP Legal, Ali Zulnorain, and other senior police were officers were also attended the meeting.
Conference decided that security will be beefed up and remained tightened across Punjab, particularly, at sensitive places, important buildings, entry and exit points of the cities, educational institutes, business markets, railway stations, bus terminals, banks, parks and public places. It was also decided that the combing operations will be increased and coordination between the intelligence agencies and close liaison with them will be accelerated, besides, to made more effective snap checking in Punjab. It was decided that one vehicle from each police station must be engaged for snap checking by installing meaningful pickets. All RPOs and DPOs will ensure that no kind of humiliation of citizens will be acceptable at these pickets. All vehicles having blue lights, dark glasses, unauthorized green number plates will be thoroughly checked politely by the officials.
While reviewing the security of the schools, the conference decided that no school could be open without fulfilling the security SOP as issued to them earlier by the police department.
To protect all the functions and ceremonies of Independence Day, it was decided that no function could be held in open area. All activities could only be arranged within the four walls after getting permission from the District Intelligence Committee constituted by the Government of Punjab. These committees will be comprising of DCO, DPO and two representatives of Intelligence agencies. The conference also approved the deployment for 14th August, 2016, as per the requirements of the field officers.
It was decided that 31776 police officers / officials will remain on duty to protect the functions of 14th August. According to deployment decision 287 elite police force and 321 officials of Quick Response Force (QRF) will be the part of patrolling squad. This patrolling squad has been given 832 vehicles and 1679 motorcycles for the patrolling purposes. Similarly, 110 walk through gates and 2363 metal detectors will be used for searching purposes, besides, the installation of 6478 CCTV cameras at vulnerable points for consecutive monitoring.
The conference also reviewed the strategy to re-fix the seniority and promotion from sub-inspector to inspector and inspector to DSP rank and it was decided that all RPOs and DPOs will complete the seniority list by next Monday so that during that week the process of promotion could be completed.
