According to the vision “Safe Punjab” of Chief Minister Punjab, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, the Safe Cities Project’s first Punjab Police Integrated Command, Communication and Control Center (PPIC3) will start working from June 2017, whereas, the soft inauguration of this system will be made during the forthcoming month of Moharram-ul-Haram of this year.
These views were expressed by Inspector General of Police Punjab, Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera at training and orientation session arranged for the newly recruited 361 communication specialists and police communication officers including 25 women for this project at Aiwan-e-Iqbal, Lahore, today. All senior police officers and Punjab Safe Cities Authority’s officers were also present on this occasion.
IGP said that the recruitment process of these officers for the Safe City Project was transparent and all hiring was made through NTS on merit. Mushtaq Sukhera said that initially at 1600 points of Lahore, 8500 cameras will be installed which directly be controlled by PPIC3 system at Qurban Lines, Lahore. DIG Operation will be the commander and two officers of SSP rank will be the deputy commander.
The PPO further said that through this project all kind of emergency response including Rescue 1122, Ambulance and fire brigade, 15 calls could be directly managed, besides the surveillance of terrorism and other criminal activities in the city. The communication officer on duty will be authorized to handle all these emergencies received directly to this center and can also dispatched orders to the nearest unit, respectively.
Mushtaq Sukhera further stated that through this system the traffic management could be more comfortable as the citizen can adopt their traveling sectors by getting information regarding the traffic situation of various roads.
He further added that later on, this Safe Cities project will be introduced in 5 big cities including Multan, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur and Faisalabad.
Earlier, the project director of Safe City Project, Akbar Nasir presented the welcome address. Later on, IGP also thanked the British experts for their cooperation.
