In order to review the procurement of vehicles, weapons and other equipment for the officials of Special Protection Unit established for the security of the foreign experts working on ongoing development projects in the province, CPLC rules 2016, Mounted Police and up-gradation of police museum were the main agenda of the meeting held today at Central Police Office, Lahore under the chairmanship of Inspector General of Police Punjab, Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera.
Addl: IGP Welfare and Finance, Sohail Khan, Addl: IGP Operations / Investigation Punjab, Capt. (R) Arif Nawaz, Addl: IGP Establishment Punjab, Dr. Arif Mushtaq and other senior police officers of CPO were also present in the meeting.
While briefing the IGP, DIG SPU, Agha Yousaf told that 114 single cabin vehicles, 28 motorcycles, 420 jackets, 420 helmets, 60 watch towers, 26 pickups, 126 walky talkies, 345 steal bunkers, 400 steal panels, tents and sophisticated weapons have been procured for SPU.
He told the IGP that the salaries of the SPU staff could not be paid to them due to some quarries raised by A.G office. The PPO immediately contacted the Accountant General Punjab and discussed the issue of the salaries of Special Protection Unit’s officials. The Accountant General assured the IGP that the salary issue will be settled immediately.
The meeting also discussed the recommendations of the field officers regarding Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) Rules 2016 in detail. It was decided that the selection of the members will be subjected to the volume of the cities and it was proposed the ratio of 13, 9 and 7 respectively, besides, one year tenure of each member was also proposed.
The meeting also decided fully utilization of the Mounted Police to improve the patrolling purpose. On this occasion Addl: IGP Finance, Sohail Khan told the IGP that except Lahore in Faisalabad, Police College Sihala, Farooqabad and Rawalpindi construction of barracks have been completed, whereas, the funds for the fodder and welfare of the horses have been provided. IGP directed Sohail Khan to induct the trained staff who can properly look after the horses.
Up-gradation of the police museum was also reviewed in the meeting and it was decided that only those valuables for the museum will be selected which have the historic background. IGP directed the Addl: IGP Finance to utilize the expertise of the historians, internet and other sources so that a state of the art police museum could be established through which the force can get information and inspiration.
