The arrangements to establish front desks in 202 police stations of 13 districts have been completed with a view to provide a peaceful environment in police stations to the complainants where they can lodge their complaints without any fear. These front desks will be operational on 23rd May which will be formally inaugurated by the chief minister of Punjab.
These arrangements were reviewed in detail in an RPO conference held today under the chairmanship of Inspector General of Police Punjab, Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera. All RPOs and DPOs through video link whereas, Addl: IGP Welfare and Finance, Sohail Khan, Addl: IGP Operations / Investigation Punjab, Capt. (R) Arif Nawaz, DIG I.T Shahid Hanif, DIG Operations Lahore, Dr. Haider Ashraf, AIG Finance, Hussain Habib Imtiaz, AIG Logistics, Humayun Bashir Tarar, AIG Operations, Ahsan Younas, AIG Monitoring Waqas-ul-Hassan and other senior police officers were also present on this occasion.
The IGP was told that for these front desks 578 computer oriented male and female senior station assistants (SSA) and police station assistants (PSA) have been enrolled through Punjab Public Service Commission. These SSA and PSA are included 422 male and 156 female. They have completed six week training pertaining to policing, laws and other relevant cources. The process of their postings in their respective districts has also been completed. These front desks are included 74 in Lahore, 6 Shekhupura, 3 Sahiwal, 21 Gujranwala, 18 Rawalpindi, 24 Faisalabad, 8 Sargodha, 15 Multan, 2 D.G Khan, 2 Muzaffargarh, 5 Bahawalpur, and 10 in Rahim Yar Khan.
These front desks will be directly monitored on regular bases by DPOs and RPOs and for this purpose monitoring rooms have also been established in their offices.
These front desks have been established at the front of the police station for the public convenience where all infrastructure and provision of all equipments have been completed. These SSAs and PSAs will perform their duties independently and they have nothing to do with SHO and Muharrar and if any SSA or PSA will involved the SHO/Muharrar in lodging the complaints of the people could loose his/her contract.
Under the direction of the chief minister of Punjab the front desks in the rest of the districts will also be established within the next financial year and this system would start a new era and will be an important step to made Punjab Police a “Public friendly”.
The conference also reviewed the security arrangement of the mosques, Ramadan bazaars, congregations, holy places of minorities, particularly the security of the schools was also reviewed in detail. It was decided that after the recommendations of the field officers security plan in this regard will be finalized.
