On the directions of Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem, Punjab Police has completed security arrangements across the province on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day. IG Punjab said that security will remain on high alert on Independence Day and a strict watch will be kept on anti-state and criminal elements. More than 300 Independence Day celebrations across Lahore and the province will be provided comprehensive security, while more than 28,000 police officers and personnel will be deployed for security and traffic arrangements. Punjab Police spokesperson said that 306 Elite teams, 177 QRF teams, 911 motorcycle teams and 829 police vehicles will conduct patrolling. A total of 128 walk-through gates and 1,122 metal detectors will be used to assist in security checking. All activities will be fully monitored through the cameras of the Safe Cities Authority. More than 8,000 police officers and personnel will ensure security and traffic arrangements in the provincial capital. In the Sheikhupura Region, 1,672; Gujranwala, 3,075; Rawalpindi, 2,994; and Sargodha Region, 1,129 officers and personnel will perform security duties.
Similarly, 3,515 officers and personnel in Faisalabad Region, 2,818 in Multan, 1,578 in Sahiwal, 1,256 in DG Khan, while 2,678 officers and personnel in Bahawalpur Region will be deployed on duty. IG Punjab Abdul Kareem said that police personnel deployed at inter-provincial border check posts should keep a strict watch on Fitna al-Khawarij and Fitna al-Hindustan. IG Punjab directed the CCPO Lahore, RPOs, CPOs and DPOs to personally supervise the security and traffic arrangements for Independence Day celebrations. IG Punjab directed that Police, Special Branch, CTD, intelligence agencies, Patrolling, Dolphin Squad, PRU and Traffic Police ensure the best possible arrangements. There will be zero tolerance against hooliganism, one-wheeling, aerial firing, blocking roads and harassing women. IG Punjab Abdul Kareem said that citizens should celebrate Independence Day with enthusiasm while respecting the law, upholding civility, and ensuring responsible conduct.
