LAHORE : Funeral prayers for martyred Sub-Inspector Adeel Ashiq, Head Constable Asad and Constable Haris Saleem were offered at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh on Friday. Corps Commander Lahore, provincial finance minister, chief secretary and secretary home Punjab, IG Punjab Abdul Kareem, CCPO Lahore, Additional IGs, DIGs and senior officers of the armed forces and law enforcement agencies, along with police personnel, attended the funeral prayers. A police contingent presented a guard of honour to the martyrs. Corps Commander Lahore, on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, laid floral wreaths on the mortal remains of the martyrs. The mortal remains of the martyrs were dispatched under full police protocol to their native areas for burial.

Corps Commander Lahore, IG Punjab Abdul Kareem and the police and military leadership also met the bereaved families of the martyrs and paid tribute to their great sacrifice in the line of duty. They said that the families of the martyrs would not be left alone and that their care and welfare would be fully ensured. Punjab Police spokesperson said that Sub-Inspector Adeel Ashiq, Head Constable Asad and Constable Haris Saleem embraced martyrdom after being fired upon by the accused Rehan Butt and his accomplices last night. Rehan Butt had also been making threatening phone calls to Sub-Inspector Adeel Ashiq, while a case had also been registered against Rehan Butt on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Adeel Ashiq. It may be noted here that an accused Faizan Butt, a shooter, was killed in an encounter with the CTD in 2024, after which his brother Rehan Butt harboured a grudge against the police.
