IG Punjab Abdul Kareem Launches Month-Long Voluntary Blood Donor Registration Campaign Across Punjab
CC-II Certificate, Minimum Honorarium of Rs. 1,000, and One Day Leave Announced for Police Officers and Personnel Donating Blood
Safe Cities Virtual Blood Bank will Engage Citizens, Educational Institutions, and Civil Society in the Blood Donor Network
On the directions of Inspector General of Police Punjab, Abdul Kareem, a province-wide voluntary blood donor registration campaign is being launched across the Punjab. In collaboration with the Punjab Safe Cities Authority’s Virtual Blood Bank, this special campaign will continue from August 8 to September 8. The campaign aims to encourage the police force, educational institutions, civil society, and the general public to voluntarily donate blood and to ensure the timely availability of blood during medical emergencies.
IG Punjab Abdul Kareem has directed all police officers and personnel to register themselves as voluntary blood donors with the Virtual Blood Bank. He also announced that police officers and personnel who donate blood through the Virtual Blood Bank will be awarded a CC-II Certificate. In addition, blood donors will receive an honorarium of at least Rs. 1,000 and one day of special leave.
IG Punjab has directed all heads of police formations to personally supervise the blood donor registration campaign and conduct effective awareness drives in their respective areas. For this purpose, police officers will promote the registration of voluntary blood donors in collaboration with educational institutions, civil society, and other relevant organizations. During the campaign, students, teachers, and citizens at universities and colleges will be encouraged to register as voluntary blood donors, while the disciplines of Social Work, Criminology, Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health will be specially included in the campaign.
IG Punjab further directed that designated police officers will serve as Virtual Blood Bank Ambassadors in their respective areas. These ambassadors will further expand the blood donor network in collaboration with educational institutions, civil society, and other organizations. Citizens who donate blood through the Virtual Blood Bank will also be issued Community Service Certificates.
Punjab Police spokesperson said that the Virtual Blood Bank established at the Punjab Safe Cities Authority has so far facilitated the provision of blood in more than 72,000 cases, while over 133,000 voluntary blood donors are registered on the platform. In addition to police personnel, the Virtual Blood Bank database also includes citizens, civil society organizations, and various blood donor organizations. The system connects patients with suitable blood donors immediately in the event of a medical emergency. Punjab Police spokesperson further stated that citizens can register themselves as blood donors or seek blood by calling 15 and pressing 4, and become part of this important humanitarian service.
