Punjab Police remained on high alert to ensure security of mourning processions and Majalis on the occasion of the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA). Inspector General of Police Punjab, Abdul Kareem, said that peaceful and secure conduct of all sacred Chehlum events was successfully ensured. Comprehensive security arrangements were made for Majalis, mourning processions, and the annual Urs celebrations of Hazrat Data Ali Hajveri (ra). IG Punjab Abdul Kareem said that 730 Majalis were held and 420 mourning processions were taken out across the province on the occasion of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA). More than 42,000 police officers and personnel performed security duties throughout Punjab, including Lahore. Elite Force, Traffic Police, and volunteers also assisted in the security arrangements. A total of 390 walk-through gates and 6,427 metal detectors were utilized for security screening.
IG Punjab further said that the mourning processions were continuously monitored through the cameras of the Safe Cities Authority. In Lahore, more than 10,000 police officers and personnel were deployed to provide security for 44 Majalis and 17 mourning processions. CCPO Lahore, RPOs, and DPOs personally supervised the security arrangements for Majalis and mourning processions. IG Punjab Abdul Kareem added that comprehensive security measures were also ensured for pilgrims arriving from across the country to attend the annual Urs of Hazrat Data Ali Hajveri (ra). Special control rooms continuously monitored the Chehlum processions, Majalis, and Urs ceremonies. Snipers were deployed on rooftops of buildings along the procession routes, while lady police personnel were deployed for the search and security of female mourners. IG Punjab Abdul Kareem also directed Peace Committees, community leaders, civil society, and all other stakeholders to play an active role in maintaining a peaceful environment through effective coordination.
