LAHORE: Inspector General of Police (IGP), Punjab, Abdul Kareem has said that comprehensive security arrangements have been finalised for the peaceful observance of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), with more than 42,000 police officers and personnel being deployed across the province. He said that 730 Majalis and 420 processions would be held across the province, adding that foolproof security measures had been put in place to ensure the safety of participants. The IGP said in Lahore alone, more than 10,000 police officers and personnel would perform security duties for 44 Majalis and 17 processions. He added that security screening would be conducted through 390 walk-through gates and 6,427 metal detectors, while processions and Majalis would be monitored round the clock through cameras of the Safe Cities Authority.
He said personnel of the Elite Force, Traffic Police and volunteers would also assist law enforcement agencies in maintaining security arrangements. He directed all Regional Police Officers (RPOs), District Police Officers (DPOs) and Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore to personally supervise security arrangements and ensure strict implementation of the issued security plan. Abdul Kareem said special arrangements had also been made for the annual Urs of Hazrat Data Ali Hajveri (RA) to ensure the safety of devotees arriving from across the country. He added that special control rooms had been established for continuous monitoring of Chehlum-related activities, mourning processions, Majalis and Urs ceremonies. He further said snipers would be deployed on rooftops of important buildings along procession routes, while female police personnel would perform duties for the security and frisking of women mourners. He directed police officials to maintain effective coordination with Peace Committees, community leaders, civil society representatives and other relevant stakeholders at all levels.
Rs1.83m released for medical aid for cops, families
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Punjab, Abdul Kareem has approved the release of Rs1.835 million in medical financial assistance for police personnel and their family members as part of the department’s ongoing welfare initiatives. According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, the funds were released after approval by the Medical Financial Assistance Committee following a detailed scrutiny of the cases.The spokesperson said that Rs500,000 had been provided for the cancer treatment of Driver Constable Imran Sharif, while Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Amjad Rauf received Rs200,000 for treatment of a heart ailment. Head Constable Abdul Ghaffar was granted Rs120,000 for appendix treatment. He added that retired Sub-Inspector Muhammad Ashraf, ASI Muhammad Ashfaq and Naib Qasid Muhammad Owais were each provided Rs100,000 for medical treatment. Similarly, ASI Tariq Mahmood, Head Constable Muhammad Ahmad, Constable Shahzad Munir, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Javed and Ghazi Constable Adeel Jameel were also granted Rs100,000 each.
The spokesperson further said that Constable Umar Farooq, Constable Dil Muhammad and retired Constable Asghar Ali were provided a combined amount of Rs215,000 for medical expenses. The IGP said the welfare of police personnel and their families, who remain committed to protecting the lives and property of citizens, was among the department’s top priorities. He added that Punjab Police was also providing quality healthcare facilities to its employees and their families through memorandums of understanding (MoUs) signed with various institutions.
