Inspector General of Police Punjab, Abdul Kareem, has said that Punjab Police has completed comprehensive security arrangements to ensure the peaceful conduct of mourning processions and Majalis on the occasion of the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA). He said that 730 Majalis will be held and 420 mourning processions will be taken out across the province, for which more than 42,000 police officers and personnel will perform security duties. IG Punjab said that in Lahore, more than 10,000 officers and personnel will be deployed to provide security for 44 Majalis and 17 mourning processions. To further strengthen security arrangements, comprehensive screening will be ensured through 390 walk-through gates and 6,427 metal detectors, while the processions and Majalis will be continuously monitored through the cameras of the Safe Cities Authority.

Abdul Kareem said that the Elite Force, Traffic Police and volunteers will also assist in the security arrangements. He directed the CCPO Lahore, all RPOs and DPOs to personally supervise the security arrangements for Majalis and mourning processions and ensure strict implementation of all security measures. IG Punjab further said that comprehensive security arrangements have also been made for the annual Urs of Hazrat Data Ali Hajveri (ra) to ensure the safety of devotees arriving from across the country. The Chehlum, mourning processions, Majalis and Urs ceremonies are being continuously monitored through special control rooms.

He added that snipers will be deployed on the rooftops of important buildings located along the routes of mourning processions, while lady police personnel will be deployed for the security and frisking of female mourners. IG Punjab also directed that effective coordination with Peace Committees, community leaders, civil society and all other relevant stakeholders be ensured at all levels.
