LAHORE:Punjab Police has continued search and combing operations against miscreants, terrorists and criminal elements across the province, including Lahore. During the last 24 hours, police conducted 383 search and combing operations across Punjab, during which 11,400 individuals were questioned and 74 suspects were taken into custody, according to the Punjab Police spokesperson. The spokesperson said during the current year, a total of 84,210 search and combing operations had been conducted across the province. During these operations, more than 286,000 individuals were questioned, while 29,445 suspects were arrested. He added that police recovered a large quantity of weapons and ammunition from suspects during these operations, including 1,971 pistols, 152 guns, 213 rifles and other ammunition.IGP Punjab Abdul Kareem has directed police officers to further intensify search, sweep and intelligence-based combing operations across the province.
The IGP instructed that search and combing activities at sensitive locations, educational institutions, bus terminals, hotels and inns should continue on a daily basis.Meanwhile, Lahore Police Operations Wing arrested 271 suspects during a series of operations conducted across the city, according to a press release. DIG Operations Faisal Kamran said six suspects allegedly involved in theft and robbery were arrested, and stolen property worth Rs440,000 was recovered from their possession. During anti-narcotics operations, police arrested 27 suspected drug dealers and recovered 4.720 kg crystal meth (ice), 3.530 kg hashish and 75 litre liquor.Police also registered 11 cases under the Arms Act and arrested 11 suspects. One rifle, nine pistols and dozens of rounds of ammunition were recovered from them. In a crackdown on kite flying, police registered 15 cases and arrested 16 suspects. Dozens of kites, 29 string reels and chemical-coated kite string were seized.
Police also arrested 12 suspects during operations against gambling and recovered more than Rs52,000 allegedly being used for gambling. The DIG Operations said four suspects involved in harassment were arrested and legal proceedings had been initiated against them. Police also arrested three individuals for alleged one-wheeling in violation of the ban and registered cases against them. Meanwhile, 189 proclaimed offenders and absconders were taken into custody, while nine other suspects involved in various offences were arrested and handed over to the Investigation Wing for further investigation.
