Punjab Police register over 32,000 power theft cases, arrest 23,439 accused

LAHORE  -   Punjab Police have registered more than 32,000 cases of electricity theft and arrested over 23,000 suspects across the province so far this year as part of an ongoing crackdown launched on the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, 32,181 cases of electricity theft have been registered across Punjab, including Lahore, while 23,439 accused have been arrested during the campaign. The spokesperson said challans have been submitted in 20,268 cases, while courts have convicted 2,521 electricity thieves, awarding them imprisonment and fines. In Lahore alone, police have registered 8,880 cases of electricity theft and arrested 9,922 suspects during the ongoing operation.
