Situation Remained Peaceful Across Lahore and the Entire Province; No Untoward Incident Occurred Anywhere, IG Punjab

On Youm-e-Ashur, IG Punjab Abdul Kareem Personally Remained in the Field, Visited the Routes of the Central Mourning Procession and the Central Police Office's Control and Monitoring Room, Reviewed Security Arrangements.

Nearly 100,000 Punjab Police Officers & Personnel Ensured Foolproof Security for Processions and Majalis on Youm-e-Ashur.

Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem has commended the police force for ensuring excellent security arrangements during Ashra of Muharram-ul-Haram. IG Punjab said that during Ashra of Muharram-ul-Haram, the police force provided comprehensive security to more than 37,800 Majalis and over 9,400 mourning processions. Punjab Police spokesperson said that the IG Punjab appreciated the performance of the CCPO Lahore as well as all RPOs and DPOs across the province. IG Punjab said that the situation remained peaceful across the provincial capital Lahore and the entire province, and no untoward incident occurred at any location. Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, provincial ministers, advisers, and local representatives provided excellent guidance to Punjab Police regarding the security arrangements. Owing to Safe Cities projects in various districts, real-time monitoring of mourning processions and Majalis was ensured. Special Branch, CTD, Traffic Police, and all operational units of Punjab Police deserve appreciation for performing their duties with dedication. Punjab Police also received full cooperation from the Pakistan Army and Rangers in ensuring security for the sacred observances of Ashra of Muharram-ul-Haram. IG Punjab said that Punjab Police is grateful to the citizens, religious scholars of different schools of thought, institutions, and the media for their wholehearted cooperation. IG Punjab directed that officers and personnel should continue to perform their duties in the future with the same spirit of public service, devotion to duty, vigilance, and professional competence to safeguard the lives and properties of the people and maintain law and order.

On the occasion of Youm-e-Ashur, IG Punjab Abdul Kareem personally remained in the field and visited the routes of the central mourning procession in Lahore. IG Punjab reviewed the security arrangements at Mochi Gate, Nisar Haveli, Imambargah Karbala Gamay Shah, and various points along the central procession of Shabeeh Zul jinnah. Senior police officers gave a detailed briefing on the security arrangements, while the IG Punjab met the deployed officers and personnel and directed them to remain alert while performing their duties. He also met Shia community leaders, members of the Peace Committee, organisers of Majalis, mourners, and local notables, and inquired about the security arrangements and facilities being provided. Community representatives and organisers expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements made by Punjab Police. IG Punjab also appreciated the "Suthra Punjab" personnel deployed for cleaning the procession routes. IG Punjab Abdul Kareem also visited the Central Police Office's main Control and Monitoring Room, where he reviewed the live monitoring of central mourning processions and Majalis in Lahore and other districts through the Safe Cities link. AIG Operations Zahid Nawaz Marwat gave a detailed briefing on the security arrangements, while Additional IG Operations Punjab Muhammad Ali Nekokara, AIG Logistics Faisal Shahzad, AIG Admin and Security Qazi Farooq Sultan, and other officers were also present. IG Punjab reviewed the law and order and security situation in different districts and directed that moment-to-moment monitoring of all central processions and Majalis should continue.

Under the leadership of IG Punjab Abdul Kareem, security remained on high alert across Lahore and the entire province on Youm-e-Ashur. Nearly 100,000 Punjab Police officers and personnel performed security duties for mourning processions and Majalis. Across the province, 2,732 mourning processions were taken out and 2,567 Majalis were held on Youm-e-Ashur. In the provincial capital Lahore, 45 mourning processions were taken out and 231 Majalis were held. Security measures included CCTV monitoring, checking through walk-through gates and metal detectors, deployment of lady police personnel for female mourners, plainclothes commandos within the processions, snipers along the routes, and special arrangements to maintain the smooth flow of traffic through alternate routes. Special Branch, CTD, Traffic Police, and all field formations assisted in the Muharram security arrangements. RPOs, CPOs, DPOs, and senior police officers also remained in the field to inspect the security arrangements for mourning processions and Majalis. Continuous monitoring was ensured through the Safe Cities Authority and all Police Control and Monitoring Rooms. Security was further tightened at inter-provincial border check posts, while strict surveillance was maintained over Fitna Al-Khawarij, Fitna Al-Hindustan, and other anti-peace elements. IG Punjab said that, with the cooperation of religious scholars, community leaders, procession organisers, all security agencies, and other stakeholders, Punjab Police ensured the peaceful, secure, and well-organised observance of Youm-e-Ashur.
