Muharram-ul-Haram Security: Punjab Police Ensuring Strict Security Arrangements Across the Province Including Lahore

On the directions of Inspector General Police Punjab Abdul Kareem, Punjab Police ensured stringent security arrangements across Lahore and the province on the sixth day of Muharram-ul-Haram. Punjab Police spokesperson said that on 06 Muharram-ul-Haram, more than 45,000 officers and personnel performed security duties for mourning processions and majalis across the province. A total of 925 mourning processions and 3,922 majalis were held throughout the province, while in Lahore, 56 mourning processions were taken out and 425 majalis were organized. More than 23,000 community volunteers also assisted in security arrangements for majalis and mourning processions across the province. IG Punjab Abdul Kareem said that security would remain on high alert across the province during the first ten days of Muharram-ul-Haram and implementation of Section 144 imposed by the Government of Punjab would be ensured. He said that aerial firing, display of weapons, dissemination of hate material and provocative activities are strictly prohibited. No processions or majalis will be allowed at any place other than the approved routes and designated venues.
He further said that all activities are being continuously monitored with the assistance of cameras installed by the Safe Cities Authority and district administrations. The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Special Branch, Traffic Police, Dolphin Squad, PRU and other field formations are deployed for Muharram security duties. IG Punjab Abdul Kareem directed that strict implementation of the Loudspeaker Act be ensured and indiscriminate action be taken against lawbreakers involved in the dissemination of hateful content on social media. He further said that control rooms established in all districts are linked with the Central Control Room at the Central Police Office and will remain in constant coordination throughout Muharram-ul-Haram to ensure effective monitoring of security arrangements and prompt response to any situation.
